Lately, Sophie and I have been reading (and rereading) a funny little book called Clyde the Monster. When she asked to watch the movie I laughed and broke the news that there was no such thing. After several whyyyyys we decided we ought to make our own short film.
Storyboarding & Screenplay
I started her off with a quick sketch of the lead actor and she colored him in (and out). Then I asked her to tell me what she would like to see happen in the movie version. For the most part, she narrated the entire story, with a few prompts from me. "And then…" usually got her going onto the next plot point.
She can't read yet, so I read her story while I shot the video. She added some sound effects with just a few suggestions (and meows) from moi.
Critical Reviews of the Pre-Release
We sent the video to Daddy at work who emailed back in a flash with an "Awesome!!!" That was three exclamation points out of three, mind you.
We're going to chromecast it to the big screen (our living room TV) this weekend when we're all together. Stuffed animals, please note: tickets are required. No exceptions.
This took about 10 minutes to throw together. And we had lots of chats throughout the day how she made her first film. (I'm learning that with kids it's just as much about the anticipation and recap as it is about the actual event. I mean, really.. we're still talking about Santa in April.)
