Zine-making with teens

Hello friends!

This Monday afternoon I’m gathering with a group of local teens to make zines! Do you know a creative teen who might be interested? Please pass it on!

✂️ The Teen Zine Collective is gathering this Monday, July 10 from 4:30-6 PM at the Hastings-On-Hudson Public Library. This hands-on workshop is for both new and experienced teen zine-makers! We will allow plenty of time for young artists and writers to develop their own zine, solicit feedback, or work on ongoing projects. Email amanning@wlsmail.org to register. Teens only, please! ✂️

I will bring my WIP (work-in-progress), a zine about the American painter Lee Krasner, who lived and worked in the Springs of East Hampton. Here is a peek at some pages, if you’d like to see…

I love this quote by Krasner: “I was a woman, Jewish, a widow, a damn good painter, thank you, and a little too independent.”

For me, zine making is like knitting or gardening. Time flies. The work surprises you.

A table of contents in a small book is so charming, don’t you think? This one plays with geography…

Last month I visited Krasner’s large-scale painting Gaea at the Museum of Modern Art…

New York was perfectly prideful…

Back home, I printed out the image of her painting, cut it up (no offense, Lee!) and glued it to the page in this pattern…

I’m only half way done with this 24-page zine so I’m really looking forward to working on this little handmade book on Monday at the next gathering of the Collective.

For attendees new to zine-making and my regulars alike: we’ll talk through the brainstorming process and plan our next zine together using this simple guide I developed…

Can’t wait to get started? Here’s your copy…
