The Newsletters I'm Really Into Right Now

February 19, 2019

There are a handful of regular newsletters that land in my inbox and actually feel like a real treat to receive. They help me with my creative pursuits and ventures, keep me in the know, and best of all, delight me. Here are a few that I'm digging right now...

The Ann Friedman Weekly

Why you'll want it in your inbox: for Ann, a freelance journalist who writes about gender, media, technology, and culture

Frequency: weekly

My take: I love this one because of the content but also because I’m always looking for inspiration for my own newsletter—how do people model theirs? What sections to they include? Sponsored newsletters are a thing—Ann's spin on this is a cheeky section of ‘classifieds.' So clever. And, I actually look a them.

The Feminist Parent

Why you'll want it in your inbox: Links to articles and expanded quotes from original essays on parenting and motherhood, through a social-justice lens

Frequency: bi-monthly

My take: This is exactly what I've been looking for. Reads for a thinking mama that aren't meant to incite, cause unnecessary worry, or play on the idea of the mommy wars.

Ryan Holiday's Reading List

Why you'll want it in your inbox: If you're a librarian, or a bibliophile, or a lover of lists of books, you will enjoy a peek at Ryan's nightstand.

Frequency: whenever he writes them

My take: I'm not always aligned with his interests in subject-matter but I'm endlessly curious to understand how writers read.

Talk Story by Nishat Kurwa

Why you'll want it in your inbox: a mix of links to interesting reads that I haven’t yet come across and a long-format interview with an inspiring woman

Frequency: Weekly

My take: For the women of color entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders that are featured in the original interview included in each issue.

Jane Jacobs was born more than a hundred years ago, yet the ideas she popularized — about cities, people, and creating a more equitable world — remain hugely relevant today. “JANE JACOBS: CHAMPION OF CITIES, CHAMPION OF PEOPLE, the first biography on Jane Jacobs for young readers, paints a vivid picture of a headstrong and principled young girl who committed her life to building cities made for, and by, the people who live in them.
