Travel Guides for Kids

April 2, 2024

Made a quick visit to our nation’s capital this Spring Break!

We visited ALL THE MONUMENTS 🤪 including Maya Lin’s ground-breaking Vietnam War memorial (lit & fig) and popped into the Smithsonian museum of Natural History & the American History Museum. Meant to see Planet Word but that would have cut into our cart-wheeling-down-the-national-mall time 🤸🏼‍♀️😜

This Lonely Planet kids book was a useful primer to read in advance of our visit (and after to reinforce context for everything we saw!) Do you have any favorite travel books or guide books for kids that you recommend? I love this genre! 🇺🇸✈️

CITY TRAILS: WASHINGTON DC 🌎🏛️📜🌸🐘 (published by Lonely Planet).

In Kid Lit, Kid Reads, True Story Tags non-fiction for kids, travel with kids, kids travel tips, middle grade non-fiction, travel guides for kids, lonely planet, visiting DC with kids

Jane Jacobs was born more than a hundred years ago, yet the ideas she popularized — about cities, people, and creating a more equitable world — remain hugely relevant today. “JANE JACOBS: CHAMPION OF CITIES, CHAMPION OF PEOPLE, the first biography on Jane Jacobs for young readers, paints a vivid picture of a headstrong and principled young girl who committed her life to building cities made for, and by, the people who live in them.
